According to Wikipedia an ASSP is a product designed to appeal to a mass market.  But what happens if  the clients in that market want something  a little different?  What happens if standards change and evolve?

These are only 2 of the many issues associated with ASSPs; technology whose features and benefits are often best-guess based on old data.
